Official Airport and Welcome Services

The official airports for the European Athletics Team Championships Second League 2021 are Sofia International Airport – 225km from the city (about 2.5 hours’ drive on a highway) and Burgas International Airport – 170km from the city (less than 2 hours’ drive on highway).

Upon arrival at any of the official airports, the teams will be met by the LOC.

Upon arrival at any of the official airports, the teams will be met by volunteers. There will be no Welcome Desk at the airports, as people are not allowed inside the arrivals hall due to the pandemic. Volunteers with respective signage will be waiting outside of the terminal building according to arrival hours.

Team members will be escorted to the official buses by the volunteers and taken to the testing centre at the warm-up area before being transported to their team hotel.

Teams arriving by road are kindly asked to go directly to the testing centre, located at the warm-up area.

Entry Visas

The participating countries do not require visa to enter Bulgaria.

Insurance

According to the European Athletics Competition Regulations, the participating Member Federations are responsible for taking out their own insurance to cover the risk of illness or injury of any member of their team when traveling to and from the European Athletics event and during the event itself. Please take the necessary steps to fulfill these requirements well in advance.

Local Transportation

Transportation between the team hotels and the various venues, including official and social functions, will be guaranteed by the LOC shuttle service.

To the competition venue

Transfer times between the team hotels and the competition venue will be less than 10 minutes’ drive, depending on the hotel location and traffic conditions.

A detailed specific timetable will be posted on the notice boards at the Information desk in each Team Hotel.

In case of a special need, teams can contact the welcome desk in their hotel.

Transportation of Equipment

Each team is responsible for organising the transport of its poles until its arrival in city. All poles or bag of poles shall bear the identification of the athlete (tag of the name, country, event, number of poles per bag).

Vaulting poles will be delivered to the Team Hotels together with the teams. The athletes will have to bring their poles to the stadium via the shuttle bus while going for the first time to the stadium where the poles will be kept in a locked storage. They will be brought to the competition site in due time by the organisers.

After the competition, athletes should make sure to take their poles to the hotel using the shuttle buses. Further transportation to the airport will be done by the return transfer using the team buses.

Departure

A shuttle service will also be in place for team departures. The frequency of this service will be based on the departure schedule, which will be posted at the Information Desk of each team hotel at least 24 hours before departure.

Teams will be asked to provide full travel details together with the final entries. Team leader will have to confirm departure details during the accreditation process.
Any changes to the provided details shall be communicated to the LOC (Information Desk at the team hotel), at least 48 hours before departure.
