European Athletics Lunch
The European Athletics Lunch will be held on Saturday, 20 August at 13:00. Two persons from each Member Federation will be invited. Invitation cards will be given together with accreditation cards, according to the names confirmed in advance by each Federation.
Opening Ceremony
The Opening of the European Championships Munich 2022 will take place on 10 August 2022, ringing in and raising the excitement for 11 action-packed days of sports and festival. The programme is based on the organisers’ overall vision of creating a unique event experience for everybody, providing memorable moments of happiness.
The schedule as well as details on the featured athletes, guests and show acts will be communicated in due course.
There will be an “opening moment” on Monday 15 August at the Olympic Stadium. Detailed information to be communicated in due time, but team members will not be involved.
Medal Ceremonies
Medal ceremonies for the Road Events will be staged at Odeonsplatz immediately after the finish of each respective race. All medal ceremonies for athletics stadium events will take place at the heart of the Olympiapark before and after the evening competition sessions. Medallists will receive their medals either on the day of the competition following the end of the evening session or the next day before the start of the evening session.Please find more details on the medal ceremony times in the medal ceremony timetable.
The medal ceremonies of the stadium events will take place on the Central Roof, a floating stage on the Olympic Lake at the heart of the Olympiapark as part of the official festival of the European Championships Munich 2022 “The Roofs”. This special location for the athletics medal ceremonies will connect athletes and fans in a less formal setting, allow to highlight their successes, the person behind the success, the athletes’ stories and give the possibility to celebrate together with fans and athletes in a festival setting.
There will be different scenarios for the transport of athletes after the end of the competitions between Olympiastadion and Central Roof, depending on post-event procedures such as Anti-Doping. The athletes, whose competition was held in the stadium and the ceremonies will take place on the same day, will be transported from the Stadium directly to the Central Roof. The mean of transport is a traditional Bavarian wooden raft that will take the athletes across the Olympic Lake to the stage. Respective vehicles will be available for transport, if required. For the ceremonies held on the next day, athletes have to come to the TIC from where they will be transported with vans and the raft to the stage.
Athletes attending a medal ceremony on the following day will receive a notification card with date, time and meeting point.
Athletes must wear the official team clothing for the ceremonies and the presentation bibs provided by the LOC. No other items shall be taken to the podium, such as flags, bags or other.
Teams will receive further detailed information on the medal ceremonies via Virtual TIC and at the Technical Briefing.
Munich 2022 – Closing Party
The Closing Party of the European Championships 2022 will take place on 21 August 2022 starting at 22:30 at the Olympiastadium. Every team member is welcome to attend!
Please note that you will need a special wristband to access the party. Team Leaders will be informed about the distribution of the wristbands in due time.
