Digital Media Services
Digital Media Centre
European Athletics and our Broadcast Partner EBU have designed a Digital Media Centre – a browser-based platform – to allow all journalists, member federations and athletes to watch the live action and simultaneously access all the information that is normally available to media in a physical Media Centre.
The Digital Media Centre will be opened shortly, and you are invited to explore the platform at your earliest convenience: https://ea.mediacenter.tv
Those who are not registered yet, please start by following the steps below.
• Go to https://vmc.ebu.ch/
• Login or create an account at vmc.ebu.ch
• Once your account is created, click on “Request Access” under “European Athletics”.
• If you have problems with your registration, please contact [email protected]
Services Available
The Virtual Media Centre will offer a wide variety of services, useful to both on-site and remote media, such as:
• Watch live streams (Integrated Feed and Isolated Production Feeds for field events),
• Watch live athletes’ flash interviews,
• Access Event Information and Publications,
• Access the Photo Gallery and media banks (limited to registered users),
• Chat with moderators.
Virtual Mixed Zone – Interview Request
Besides having access to all the services available in the Digital Media Centre (as described above), remote journalists will be offered preferential access to the “Virtual Mixed Zone”. This service will allow remote journalists to request and download (limited to rights distribution) interviews.
The possibility to conduct interviews and engage with your athletes will be available through the live Flash Quotes position in the Mixed Zone. Requests will have to be submitted in advance to: [email protected] or via the chat option directly in the VMC platform.
Feedback
Our aim has been to create a single online location where media, regardless of their location, are able to access a wide variety of services simultaneously, and have at their disposal working conditions as similar as possible to actually being at the Championships.
We would very much appreciate your post-event feedback on how the Digital Media Centre functioned and have your suggestions for potential future improvements.
For any further information please contact [email protected].
Half Marathon & Race Walk
Half Marathon
Both the half marathons will take place on Sunday 9 June. For the first time since 2006 the half marathon will finish inside the stadium.
Via dei Fori Imperiali will provide a historic backdrop for the start of both races at 09.00 (men’s) and 09.30 (women’s). The course will touch some of the capital’s most iconic sites and monuments, running alongside the “Altare della Patria” in Piazza Venezia, then crossing Corso Vittorio Emanuele II and Piazza Navona, heading towards “Castel Sant’Angelo” and St. Peter’s Square, before moving towards Piazza Mazzini and reaching Lungotevere Guglielmo Oberdan, the main route crossing through the city along the river Tiber (Tevere).
After running for about 6 km, the athletes will enter a loop (repeated three times), passing the “Ponte della Musica” bridge and crossing the river on “Ponte Duca D’Aosta” bridge.
The final part of the half marathon will be run inside the Foro Italico area, with the finish line inside the Olympic Stadium in front of spectators and fans. An exciting revival of the Marathons at the Roma 1974 European Athletics Championships and at the Roma 1987 World Athletics Championships, both concluded in front of cheering crowds inside the stadium.
Amateur runners will have a rare opportunity to race on the European Athletics Championships course, with a 10k race starting from the Fori Imperiali on Sunday 9 June shortly after the official half marathon.
Transportation for the Half Marathon
There will be a limited number of places on shuttle buses organised for media/photographers to the half marathon start and iconic points around the course. The allocation system and schedule of shuttle buses will be communicated during the photo briefing on 6 June.
Race Walk
The race walk competitions are scheduled for Friday 7 June (women) and Saturday 8 June (men). For the first time at any major championships since the 2015 World Athletics Championships in Beijing – and for the first time at the European Athletics Championships since Gothenburg 2006 – the races will conclude inside the main stadium and the winners will be crowned in the Olympic Stadium.
The race walkers will embark on 19 laps of the Foro Italico – the city’s iconic Olympic Park – before concluding their journeys in the Olympic Stadium.
